The Core Mechanic
Hot Donut is all about controlling gravity. Your donut hero has two states:
- Roll Mode (hold): Heavy gravity. Your donut grips the ground, rolls fast, and builds momentum down slopes. This is how you move forward.
- Float Mode (release): Light gravity. Your donut rises and glides. Use this to clear gaps, sail over obstacles, and reach high platforms.
Mastering the rhythm of rolling and floating is the heart of the game. Most levels reward players who hold Roll on the descents and release at the right moment to fly across gaps.

Power-Ups
Power-ups are purchased in the Shop using crystals. All power-ups use a fuel resource that depletes with use and refills between levels.
Dash
A burst of horizontal speed. Unlock this first — it's required to complete level 2 and costs only 1 crystal. Upgrade Dash Fuel in the shop to get longer dashes. Trigger with Right Shift (desktop) or swipe up (mobile).
Fly Dash
An angled speed burst — great for launching off ramps. Costs 10 crystals. Requires owning Dash first. Uses its own Fly Fuel gauge. Trigger with Left Shift (desktop) or swipe right (mobile).
Float
Pushes the donut upward with extra lift. Useful for reaching high platforms or slowing a descent. Costs 50 crystals. Trigger with Down Arrow (desktop) or swipe down (mobile).
Magic Orb
Slows time to 25% for precise control through difficult sections. A premium upgrade for advanced players. Uses Magic Fuel.
Lifesaver
Saves you when you fall into water instead of dying. One use per level. Buy extras in the shop.
Instant Boost
Immediately launches your donut forward at high speed. Use with Enter (desktop). Buy in the shop.
Stars & Scoring
Each level awards up to 3 stars:
- Star 1: Complete the level (always awarded on win)
- Star 2: Reach the score threshold (collect stars and combos quickly)
- Star 3: Collect 5 or more fireflies in the level
Earning new stars for a level awards crystals — 1 crystal per new star. Stars you already earned on a previous attempt don't give crystals again.
The Shop
Access the shop from the main menu. The shop has 23 items including:
- Mechanics: Dash, Fly Dash, Float, Magic Orb, FireFly Radar
- Fuel upgrades: +20 fuel for Dash, Fly, Float, and Magic (each can be upgraded 5 times to 100)
- Roll Speed: Increases rolling gravity for faster speeds
- Consumables: Lifesavers, Instant Boosts
- Skins: 8 visual skins for your donut (Chocolate, Rainbow, Chrome, and more)
- Wallpaper: Unlock extra background themes
Gifts & World Unlocks
Every 5th level awards a gift on your first completion — extra lifesavers, fuel upgrades, or boosts. At the end of each world (levels 15, 30, 45, 60, 75) a new world unlocks. Complete all 75 levels to finish the game!
Tips & Strategies
- Build momentum: Hold Roll on downhill sections to maximise speed, then release to carry momentum over gaps.
- Loops: Some levels have loop-the-loops. You can go backward through a loop — the "Wrong Way!" message won't trigger inside loops.
- Stuck?: If you stop moving, the game will give you a forward nudge after a second. Use it to recover from bad spots.
- FireFly Radar: An upgrade that shows an arrow pointing to the next uncollected firefly — great for 3-star hunting.
- Stars expire quickly: Stars on the ground disappear after a few seconds, so pick them up while they're nearby.
- Score combos: Collect multiple collectibles in quick succession for combo bonuses. Combos reset when you touch the ground after being airborne.
